Origins of biological complexity.

From a single cell, embryogenesis elaborates a high-dimensional phenotype from a compressed genotype. While the brain and immune system respond to changing environments, the embryo processes information in relative isolation. We were its one and only thought. My PhD research, at the intersection of physics and biology, draws on dynamical systems and information theory to understand and learn from this extraordinary generative process.
